Tropical Storm Idalia Update

Posted on August 28, 2023

Tropical Strom Idalia
The City is currently working on battening down the hatches. We are looking at a very high tide tomorrow and Wednesday along with possible 7-10 feet storm surge. Please see below for some ways you can get ready now!
Sand Bags:
A sand bag station will open starting at 11am today at the Public Works Yard, self service, for Madeira Beach residents. We will be handing out 10 bags per resident until 5pm. The filling station itself will be open until 7pm. Please be kind and have patience while going through the line as employees go through the line checking ids.
Sanitation:
Garbage pick up will remain on schedule Tuesday, August 29th. There will be no pick up on Wednesday, August 30th. Regular picks will resume once we access the damage of the storm. Public works will be clearing roads and storm drains before picking up residential or commercial trash.
Shelters:
Check your evacuation plan now. See the below link for a list of Pinellas County Shelters: https://pinellas.gov/emergency-information/public-shelters/
Emergency Access Passes:
City Hall will be open today and tomorrow for residents to get Emergency Access Passes to get back on the island. If you have one from a past storm they are still good!
Please keep an eye on news outlets for more information on the storm and sign up for Alert Pinellas for evacuation notices: https://pinellas.gov/alert-pinellas/.
