What to do when you lose power!

Summer means thunderstorms. There doesn't have to be a hurricane for you to lose power, a strong summer thunderstorm and do the trick. Please see below on some actions to take if you loose power in a thunderstorm or hurricane.

  • Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed
  • Use a generator OUTDOORS and AWAY from windows
  • Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges
  • Have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or using power-dependent medical devices
  • If going outside, avoid large puddles around power line. Lines might be submerged but still active.
  • Power outage means no AC, click here on how to stay safe in extreme heat
